Home Hardware Begins Construction on Eastern Distribution Centre Expansion

Construction has started at Home Hardware Stores Limited’s Eastern Distribution Centre in Debert, Nova Scotia. One of Home Hardware Stores Limited’s four distribution centers, the currently 350,000-square-foot Eastern Distribution Centre will grow by 236,000 square feet once the expansion is complete.

Its construction will take place in two phases, with Phase One expected to be completed in January 2014; the second phase is planned to start in spring 2014 and completed later that year.

“The expanded Distribution Centre will have a number of state-of-the-art benefits, including: a high-speed sortation system for directing product onto the proper trailer; an increased shipping area; and a water retention pond that was created to ensure all of the water flowing back into the wetlands is clean water,” said Paul Straus, President and Chief Executive Officer, Home Hardware Stores Limited.

Home Hardware’s Eastern Distribution Centre announced the official purchase of the land near its current location on Jan. 9; construction of a substantial facility expansion started on March 1.
