The Do it Best Group distribution center in Mesquite, Nevada, has earned Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) certification for the 13th consecutive year, continuing a record of safety excellence that spans more than a decade.
SHARP is a voluntary Occupational Safety and Health Administration program that recognizes workplaces operating exemplary safety and health programs. Participants work with OSHA’s On-Site Consultation Program to identify potential hazards, strengthen workplace practices and meet rigorous safety standards.
Maintaining the recognition requires an extensive recertification process every three years, with participation from team members throughout the Mesquite distribution center. The process evaluates the center’s safety systems, workplace conditions, training, staff involvement and commitment to continuous improvement.
“Nothing is more important than keeping our team safe,” says Tim Miller, chief logistics officer for Do it Best Group. “And safety is also one of the most important measures of how effectively we serve our member stores. Our members depend on us to deliver the products they need consistently and reliably and that begins with operating facilities where our entire team looks out for one another and performs their work safely. Earning a SHARP recognition for 13 straight years demonstrates the discipline, accountability and teamwork that general manager Cole Atwood and the entire Mesquite team bring to that responsibility every day.”
Atwood has continued the commitment established by the distribution center more than a decade ago. The facility’s ongoing partnership with OSHA provides knowledge and insights that also help strengthen safety practices across the Do it Best Group distribution network.
The Mesquite team earned the recognition while continuing to support member stores with safe, reliable distribution service. The achievement reflects a shared commitment to ensuring every team member goes home in the same condition in which they arrived at work.
“Recognition at this level is never the result of one person or one inspection,” Miller adds. “It is earned through thousands of daily decisions and a culture in which everyone accepts responsibility for safety. We congratulate the entire Mesquite team on this outstanding achievement.”
