Eco-Friendly Paints to Give Your Customers Options

Picking a paint color is challenging enough for some customers. On top of needing to choose their color, some are also looking at the chemicals used in the paint and seeking alternatives to traditional acrylic or oil paint. Hardware Retailing shares three paint alternatives you can stock to give your customers more eco-friendly options.

Milk Paint

The paint from The Real Milk Paint Co. is an environmentally friendly, nontoxic paint that sticks to raw wood, plaster, dry wall, stone and concrete. Available in 56 colors, this milk paint is kid- and pet-safe and won’t fill homes with fumes. It is available in sample, paint, quart and gallon sizes.

Milk Paint from General Finishes are low-VOC, self sealing interior or exterior mineral-based paints with a low-luster sheen. The paints are ideal for cabinets and furniture and made with 50% renewable resources.

Milk Paint from Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint comes in 28 colors and three collections. It is made from four ingredients—casein, lime, natural pigments and plant-based filler.

Chalk Paint

Chalked Paint from Rust-Oleum is available in a variety of colors and shades and in a matte sheen in 30-ounce cans. It has an ultra matte finish and can be painted or distressed as well. Only one coat is needed for most surfaces, and it is made for indoor use only.

The Chalk Paint from Jolie Home is Green Wise certified, requires no priming or sanding and dries in 20 minutes. It features an ultra matte finish and is available in a 4-ounce, quart and gallon sizes.

Clay Paint

Clay Paint from BioShield comes in 48 colors and is self-priming and splatter resistant, providing strong coverage. It can be used on new drywall or on existing solid coats of paint.

Terry Clay Paint from Dixie Bell Paint is available in a variety of colors and in 4- and 16-ounce cans.
