Honoring the owner of the former Sterling True Value Hardware in Wisconsin, the fundraiser Jeff Sterling Memorial Golf Outing is in its 18th year and has gotten a little help from fellow retailers. The golf outing honors the memory of Jeff Sterling, who passed away in 2006, says Jeff’s wife, Kathy Sterling.
Rick Treider began the golf outing for Jeff, but Rick passed away in 2022, passing the reins to Kathy, who expanded the outing to the Jeff Sterling & Rick Treider Memorial Golf Outing. Funds raised at the outing go to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation for Jeff and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for Rick.
This year, those reins have been graciously picked up by the Martens family, who own Martens Reedsburg True Value in Reedsburg, Wisconsin; Trilling True Value in Sheboygan, Wisconsin; and Martens Farm & Home in Waupan, Wisconsin. Jeff’s father, Richard Sterling, opened Tippecanoe Hardware after working for Erv Martens at his very first True Value Hardware store in Reedsburg.
“Rick made me promise that if anything happened to him that I would always continue the outing,” Kathy says. “It means so much that Danny and his family continue to help me honor Jeff, Rick and Richard, who passed away in June last year.”
