One way to improve impulse sales and an effective way to cross-merchandise is to create displays according to seasons or holidays. While Christmas and Halloween make for popular, eye-catching merchandising opportunities, be sure to also highlight general seasons and other, less common holidays, like Flag Day (which is June 14 every year in the U.S.).
Check out the gallery below of some seasonal displays from your peers. Send any of your own merchandising displays to Melanie Moul to be featured in a future gallery or even in the pages of Hardware Retailing.
Give your customers an idea of what their garden could look like before they even make it to the garden center. This display outside Howard’s Hardware Hank shows a little bit of everything that’s available.
Combine your customers’ favorite things during each season. Take a cue from Bloomington Hardware and highlight grilling and team spirit for the local football team.
Some seasonal displays come preassembled and can appeal to customers’ “need it now” mentality. This impulse display at the checkout counter at Wippler Hardware Hank will get customers thinking about their outdoor activities.
The team at Balsam Lake Hardware changes out its endcap themes seasonally. They use wire racks sometimes to make the products stand out.
When it comes to holiday displays, it’s OK to go a little over the top. Rely on nostalgia to bring people in, like this window display at Jeben’s Hardware.
Keeping seasonal merchandise up front at the entrance will remind customers what they need and will give some customers a heads up about impending weather, like this display at Cottonwood Hardware Hank.
