Promote Eco-Friendly Projects

Establish your business not only as a place for expert advice in everything DIY, but also as a go-to store for all eco-friendly projects.

Energy efficiency was a huge trend spotted in The New American Home during the International Builders’ Show, (learn more on Page 62). Here are some projects you can share with your customers:

Conserve Water With Rain Barrels—For consumers in arid areas of the country and even lush locations, rainwater collection is a great way to water the lawn without paying for it. This is a simple project that’s easy for you to promote and easy for your customers to build and install. They can then use this collected water on their gardens.

Compost Bins—A compost bin is another easy project that involves products from your store. Not only do compost bins help keep excess food waste out of the landfill, but they also improve the quality of soil by adding organic matter and nutrients.

Seal Windows and Doors—A simple project you can teach customers all year long is how to best seal their windows and doors. So they’re better equipped to help these customers, take time to review with your employees the many options your store offers, including weatherstripping, caulk or even better-fitting doors and windows to seal the home.
