PaintCare Washington Recycles 1 Million Gallons of Paint

In less than 18 months, PaintCare has recycled 1 million gallons of paint in Washington state. PaintCare is a nonprofit organization created by paint manufacturers that operates paint stewardship programs in several states to provide an outlet for consumers and businesses to reuse and recycle leftover paint.

The PaintCare program began in Washington in April 2021 and currently has over 200 drop-off sites across the state. Locations include paint stores and locally managed government facilities.

The program is part of the paint stewardship law, which the Washington State Legislature passed in 2019. The law passed thanks to a collaboration among multiple stakeholders, including Washington’s Department of Ecology (Ecology), PSI, the Northwest Product Stewardship Council (NWPSC) and Zero Waste Washington.
