Operation Modernize: How Retailers Plan to Implement Tech in Their Operations in 2026

With new advancements and the increasing use of technologies, the ever-changing tech landscape in the retail space can be difficult to navigate and keep up with. According to the How Retailers Can Modernize In-Store Tech with Confidence report conducted by Jumpmind, North American retailers surveyed say:

  • They can’t keep up with the pace of technology change (54%)
  • They struggle to quantify return on their in-store technology investments (49%)
  • They feel conflicted about whether new technology will be beneficial or distracting (37%)

The study also evaluated the plans that retailers anticipate following for year-over-year growth in their operations. Here are the top technologies these retailers plan to invest in in 2026:

  • 73%:  Deploy a single app to control employee access to all required functionality
  • 66%:  Implement in-store real-time cross-channel customer and order information
  • 66%:  Use mobile devices to serve as point-of-sale
  • 63%:  Put in place in-store fulfillment solutions
