Meet Pinky: Bliffert Lumber’s Pink Truck Supports Breast Cancer Patients

Bliffert Lumber‘s fleet of trucks is like any other lumberyard’s, except for one key aspect: there’s a pink truck.

“Pinky,” Bliffert Lumber’s pink truck, was created to support local breast cancer patients and breast cancer research, earning 20 cents for every mile it drives.

“Bliffert has had a partnership with Susan G. Komen for quite some time, but we wanted to help more and make a unique difference in our community,” says Chris Hegeman, Bliffert Lumber manager. “The idea of having a truck that serves a greater purpose came up, and we reached out to Lakeside International Trucking to see if they could help.”

Lakeside International Trucking provided Bliffert with the truck in 2019, and the company matches fundraiser donations up to $2,500. In total, Bliffert Lumber and Lakeside International Trucks have worked together to raise $21,547 with the pink truck. In 2024, they donated $6,060 to Susan G. Komen.

“We are so humbled and appreciative of the support provided by these two generous local businesses,” says Nikki Panico, Susan G. Komen Wisconsin executive director. “Their big pink truck is absolutely a community hero.”

Bliffert Lumber also created a donation campaign driven by employees.

We had a total of 33 team members sign up to participate in the More Than Pink Walk and another 45 contributed funds toward the campaign,” says Eloissa Heigl, Bliffert’s marketing communications specialist.

Bliffert employees and community members contributed an additional $2,770 in donations, despite the race being canceled due to weather.

Bliffert’s pink truck continues to travel throughout Wisconsin year-round.

“This is just what we do at Bliffert. We love our community, and we want to give back,” Hegeman says. “Breast cancer has affected many of us. We’re proud to give back and encourage the community to do the same if they are able.”
