Making Outdoor Spaces More Sustainable

Over the past several years, more and more sustainable products, such as LED lighting and solar elements, and practices are making their way into U.S. homes.

Plus, adding sustainable living options into homes and lifestyles is becoming more affordable and mainstream. This trend is demonstrated in recent data found in the 2016 Houzz Landscaping & Garden Trends Study conducted by Houzz, an online home improvement community.

The numbers come from a survey of more than 950 U.S. Houzz users who were homeowners who completed an outdoor project in the past 12 months, are working on a project or plan to start one in the next six months. Of the respondents, 82 percent are or plan on making updates to outdoor systems/equipment, including irrigation systems and lighting.

Applied to Retail: Think through whether your business is equipped to assist shoppers with adding new or updated sustainable features to their homes.

Are your sales associates knowledgeable about new Wi-Fi-enabled sprinkler systems or do you have an employee who is an expert on composting? Be sure your staff is equipped to answer questions about these increasingly popular topics.
