Lawn and garden product sales in the U.S. have grown 7% in the last 12 months, despite concerns about inflation and tariffs, according to YipitData, a strategic partner of the Home Improvement Research Institute (HIRI). HIRI attributes the growth to the popularity of the lawn mower segment, particularly with zero-turn mowers.
In 2024, lawn mowers accounted for 8% of sales in the lawn and garden category, with a 15% sales growth year over year, outperforming other outdoor power equipment categories like hedge trimmers, string trimmers and leaf blowers. As homeowners increasingly prioritize lawn care, these products have become essential for maintaining outdoor spaces.
Within the lawn mower segment, zero-turn mowers account for 28% of the category, with their 2024 share growing 2% year over year and sales growing 21%. The growth in this category, especially for zero-turn mowers, provides independent retailers the opportunity to attract customers.
