Home Depot Announces Northernmost Store in Canada

The Home Depot Canada recently announced the opening of their newest store location in Fort McMurray, Alberta, opening in the spring of 2026. The store will be Home Depot Canada’s 28th store in Alberta and its northernmost store in the country. The new location will also create around 150 new jobs.

“We look forward to continuing to grow in Canada. Fort McMurray is a dynamic community in the heart of a region experiencing momentum from the forestry, construction, oil and gas sectors. By investing in the Fort McMurray community and Alberta as a whole, we can help to create wide-ranging benefits from job creation to community investments,” says Vinod Nalajala, The Home Depot Canada president. “The store opening is an exciting step forward in support of the Wood Buffalo region while serving the hard-working northern communities with pride. We are confident our new store will provide local PRO and DIY customers with the right products and services they need to successfully complete their projects and inspire new ones.”

The store will be 80,000 square feet and feature an optimized, flexible checkout and customer service area, specialty showrooms with merchandising displays and layouts, a large garden centre and a tool rental center.

“We are excited to be selected as the destination for The Home Depot Canada’s 183rd store,” says Sandy Bowman, Fort McMurray mayor. “Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo is a great place to do business, work, grow and raise a family, and this move recognizes the tremendous retail potential that exists here. We look forward to welcoming one of the world’s largest retailers and the shopping and service opportunities it creates for residents.”
