Hermann Lumber in Hermann, Missouri, and has been operating in the community since 1922. In addition to the Hermann location, the operation owns multiple locations throughout Southwest Missouri, including New Haven Lumber and a a Ready-Mixed Concrete facility in Hermann.
The family business was founded by Albert Baumstark in 1922. Today, the operation is owned by the same family in its fourth generation.
Dan Baumstark, grandson of Albert, and his daughters, Megan Stiers, Rachel Korman and Chelsea Rohlfing, now run the company as a team. Stiers says the store’s longevity can be attributed in part to its many long-term employees, who have joined the team and remained with the company for years.
“We’ve been blessed with dedicated employees who have come into our organization and have built careers with us,” she says. “With longevity and good people who prioritize customer service, we’ve been able to remain a relevant and trusted part of the community for 104 years.”
Hermann Lumber offers customers a large selection of lumber and building materials along with paint, plumbing and electrical, cabinetry, flooring and more. They also offer key cutting, chainsaw sharpening, glass and screen repair, digital paint matching and more.
Stiers says the store’s services are used fairly evenly by customers, depending on the season.
“Come spring, when everybody’s opening their windows, we’ll see an increase in screen repair,” she says. “In the fall when people are gearing up for winter, you’ll see an increase in chainsaw sharpening with everybody getting out and cutting firewood.”
The store went through a renovation in 2022 to celebrate their 100 year anniversary. Stiers is proud of how far the company has come as a family-owned operation.
“It’s rare for a business to operate for more than 100 years, especially while remaining in the same family,” Stiers says. “It’s something we take great pride in.”
