Roofing, siding and insulation are some of the major projects homeowners may know they need to do around the house, but sometimes they need encouragement to get started. Caleb Wiggins, manager of the Saskatoon Co-op Home Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, wants to help them. He and his staff built a display that offers building materials products, along with how-to information.
The display takes the outline of a home’s walls and roof. On the outside of the display, customers can see, for example, how to install certain types of insulation. Inside the display, there is space to store a few bags of the insulation the store offers.
“We prompt customers with the products they need to do the project and then show them how to do it,” he says.
Wiggins brings the display out in the fall and keeps it out until the spring, when he replaces it with other seasonal products. The display lets customers see some of the bulkier building material items normally stored in the back of the store and reminds them about projects they may need to do around their own homes.
