Basic Skills Test for Prospective Employees

Before you start investing a lot of time and resources in vetting a prospective employee, it’s helpful to know as much as you can about their fitness for the job. One way to find out more is to give applicants a simple test that evaluates their math- and problem-solving abilities. NRHA offers this simple skills test to give you one more way to determine how well the applicant is suited to work in a hardware retail environment. It’s been compiled from suggestions from retailers who use similar tests in their hiring processes.

The test includes some math problems, so the recommended way to administer it is to give the applicant a copy of this test and a pen or pencil; see if they can do to problems without relying on a calculator or mobile device. Below, you can download both the test and the answer key.
