Todd Kirschner is proud of how Trio Hardware has bought into the community near Plainview, New York.
The store has built a strong following in the community through its support of local organizations. That following made an appearance when dozens of volunteers showed up to help Trio Hardware move to a new location.
This kind of outreach isn’t unprecedented for the Plainview community or the business. Under the original owners, volunteers helped Trio Hardware move to a new facility in 1987. This time, the move was over a greater distance and it required moving far more products than in the ‘80s.
“We’re big on social media, so we made a Facebook video announcement,” Kirschner says. “There were a few thousand hits on that video, and then we put out a sign-up sheet at the store for anyone interested in helping us move.”
On moving day, representatives from organizations that Trio Hardware sponsors joined community members in unloading trucks. Volunteers signed waivers before handling any products, and each one received a T-shirt for their efforts. Enthusiasm was high throughout the move, which took two days over a weekend. The store reopened for business in its new location on the following Tuesday.
“Everyone had a lot of fun with the process,” Kirschner says. “They told us, ‘It’s the least we can do. You have been in the community forever, so we’re happy to help when we can.’”
