Earlier this year, Hardware Retailing traveled to Las Vegas to discover the latest trends and innovations in the building and remodeling industry at Design and Construction Week, held Jan. 19-22.
The week brought the various segments of the housing industry together, with the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) hosting its International Builders’ Show (IBS), and the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) hosting its Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Attendees could walk the halls of the co-located event to scope out new products, attend educational seminars and network with other industry professionals.
During the show, Hardware Retailing spotted many unique new products, construction techniques and innovations that independent home improvement retailers should take note of, whether they work with professional contractors, DIYers or both.
Some of the most notable things seen on both sides of the convention center was a heavy presence of smart technology, a preference for customization of the home and the unique sense that more consumers want to dress their homes from top-to-bottom in luxury or luxury detailing. Several of the trends spotted at the convention center were also visible in The New American Home 2016, which Hardware Retailing breaks down in greater detail in the April issue of the magazine.
The following articles highlight trends in the home building and remodeling category as well as the latest design trends in the kitchen and bath industry. Click on each to view photos from the show floor and about the latest trends consumers will be incorporating into their homes for the next few years.
