Shoppers like making memories in locally owned stores, and they’ll make special trips for the experiences hometown businesses offer, according to Keith Vaughn, owner of Knoxville Mercantile in Illinois. While they’re at it, they’ll buy weed whacker string and nuts and bolts, he says.
