Amazon Drone Delivery Service On Hold

Amazon’s plans to make deliveries by drone may come to a standstill due to recently proposed federal laws.

If proposed legislation passes, Amazon might not be able to launch its Prime Air service in the U.S., according to an article in Fortune.

Amazon planned to use drones that weren’t manually operated by employees to deliver customer orders starting this year. However, the proposed laws would prohibit operators from flying drones outside their line of sight and over people who aren’t in control of the aircraft, the article says.

Amazon is committed to Prime Air and will start the drone program once regulatory support is in place, Paul Misener, Amazon’s vice president for global policy, has said. The FAA is accepting public comments on the proposed regulations during the next 60 days, the Fortune article says.

Other companies considering drone use include Google and Domino’s Pizza.
