Ample Holiday Shopping Still Ahead

With Black Friday less than two days away, consumers still have a lot of shopping to do. According to Deloitte’s 2014 pre-Thanksgiving survey, only 18 percent of consumers have completed their holiday gift shopping to date.

Not only do consumers still have a lot of shopping to do, but they also are increasing their spending. In fact, “81 percent of consumers plan to spend the same or more this holiday season than they did just a month or two ago,” according to the survey.

Here are more statistics from the Deloitte survey:

  • Shoppers plan to spend an average of $295 over the holiday weekend.
  • 85 percent of Black Friday shoppers say they’ll be shopping in stores to take advantage of sales.
  • 35 percent of Black Friday shoppers say they shop for the overall excitement.
  • One-third (33 percent) plan to shop on the Saturday after Black Friday to support local retail businesses.
