As Small Business Saturday has its fifth anniversary this weekend, retailers who join the movement can help make this retail holiday a success.
According to a Forbes article, Small Business Saturday and “the associated ‘Shop Small’ initiative has helped generate billions of dollars of revenue for tens of thousands of small retailers.”
American Express launched Small Business Saturday in 2010, and the primary focus of the retail holiday is to allow all independent retailers a chance to welcome new customers to their stores.
Although the holiday began with American Express, many retailers “don’t make an explicit connection between American Express and their neighborhood’s shop small initiatives,” according to the Forbes article.
Independent home improvement retailers can take advantage of this day, while also fostering new relationships with community members who shop at their stores.
Retailers looking to get involved in the day should make a point to welcome all customers who walk through their doors. The goals should go beyond the day.
As retailers build relationships with Small Business Saturday shoppers, loyal customers are sure to emerge.
