Tart Lumber Company, a family-owned and operated lumberyard, has been serving Northern Virginia for 75 years.
Tart Lumber Company was founded by Lynwood D. Tart in 1951. The business began when Tart traveled from North Carolina to Arlington, Virginia, with a bed full of lumber in a borrowed truck. He started selling products in an 8×10 cinderblock building, servicing builders, contractors and homeowners with with materials for their projects.
The company’s current location in Sterling, Virginia, was opened in the early 1970s. They have grown into a trusted name and are known for its extensive inventory of framing lumber, treated materials, hardwoods and specialty building products.
Today, the company is led by Virginia Lyn Lewis, the current president of the company and the granddaughter of the original founder.
“Reaching 75 years is an incredible milestone for our company and our family,” Virginia says. “We are deeply grateful to our loyal customers, dedicated employees and the community that has supported us throughout the years. Our mission has always been to provide the best materials and service possible, and that commitment continues today.”
Over the years, they have remained rooted in their core values of quality, reliability and community support. They continue to supply materials for countless projects across northern Virginia.
“We remain committed to the traditional values that have defined our business since 1951,” says CEO Elizabeth Tart Fritsche. “We’re excited to continue serving our customers for generations to come.”
