Taylor’s Do it Centers to Buy Seven-Store Chain

Taylor’s Do it Centers of Virginia Beach announced the company is buying seven Pleasants Hardware stores in the Richmond, Virginia, area, according to an article from the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The deal is expected to close mid-February, according to the article. After the purchase is finalized, Taylor’s Do it Centers will operate 18 stores, including 17 in Virginia and one in Moyock, North Carolina.

Taylor’s Do it Centers is not purchasing the Pleasants Hardware flagship store, which will close at the end of February.

Joe Taylor, president and CEO of Taylor’s Do it Centers, says in the Times-Dispatch article that the Pleasants Hardware stores will keep the Pleasants name, but they will transition to joining the Do it Best co-op. Pleasants is a family owned and operated business that opened in the early 1900s, according to Taylor’s Do it Centers.

Staff from Taylor’s Do it Centers has visited all of the Pleasants Hardware locations. “Do some need a little work? Sure—but we were impressed with the stores and the employees,” Taylor says in the story.

Due to the acquisition, the Taylor’s Do it Center headquarters staff will grow by about 100, the article reports. In addition, some part-time positions at Pleasants Hardware locations could become full-time jobs.
