Home Improvement Manufacturers Share Positive Sentiments

The American Hardware Manufacturers Association’s AHMA Home Improvement Industry Confidence Index’s Current Situation Index improved in June to 337.5 from 320.8 in May. Manufacturers also indicate plans to invest in mobile devices and confirm the importance of a strong housing segment.

In comparing current sales levels to year-ago levels, 81 percent of respondents said sales were higher in June versus year-ago levels, up from 77 percent in May. For June, 19 percent reported sales were even, and zero percent said sales were below year-ago levels.

Looking forward six months, 57 percent of June respondents said they expect sales to be above current levels, down from 81 percent in May. In June, 38 percent of respondents said they expect sales to be even in six months and 5 percent expect sales to be below current levels.

Looking forward one year, 67 percent of respondents project sales will be higher, down from 73 percent who felt that way in May. In addition, 24 percent of June respondents project sales will be even one year from now and 10 percent project sales will be below current levels.
