CEO: Walmart to Axe Minimum Wage Early in 2015

Walmart will be doing away with minimum wage in the beginning of 2015, according to a Forbes article. Walmart CEO Doug McMillon made this promise in October, but has now hinted at a deadline.

“We’re going to make changes in a few months that will create a situation where no Walmart associate in the United States makes federal minimum wage,” McMillon says in an interview with CBS this week.

The wage hike is part of McMillon’s initiative to change the perception of Walmart, which is currently perceived as a “low-wage, dead-end employer.”

The announcement follows more than three years of Walmart associates and labor unions protesting wages and working conditions.
