HPM Building Supply, Hawaii’s local, family-founded building industry retailer, manufacturer and supplier recently celebrated its 100th anniversary and shared photos from the company’s storied history. Take a trip through the last 100 years of HPM Building Supply.

HPM’s first Kamehameha Avenue building in Hilo, Hawaii was decimated by a tsunami on April 1, 1946.
The grand opening and blessing of HPM’s Kanoelehua Avenue store on August 25, 1961.
HPM builds micro-shelters for those displaced by the Kilauea eruption. This provides inspiration for HalePlus, HPM’s initiative to produce factory-built modular homes designed to meet Hawaii’s affordable housing crisis.
HPM acquired Kauai Lumber, Inc., located in Lawai, Kauai in 2011. HPM later expanded on Kauai with an additional location in Kapaa in 2015.
HPM Building Supply becomes truly statewide in 2020 by acquiring Miyake Concrete Accessories, Inc., adding 4 retail locations and 1 truss plant in Wailuku, Kihei, Makawao, Lahaina and Waikapu.

Lindsey joined the NHPA staff in 2021 as an associate editor and has served as senior editor and now managing editor. A native of Ohio, Lindsey earned a B.S. in journalism and minors in business and sociology from Ohio University. She loves spending time with her husband, two kids, two cats and one dog, as well as doing DIY projects around the house, coaching basketball, going to concerts, boating and cheering on the Cleveland Guardians.
