According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, slowed domestic manufacturing has decreased the widespread adoption of mass timber in the U.S. The USDA Forest Service is addressing these supply gaps through various grant programs like the Wood Innovation Grant Program.
The USDA’s Wood Innovations Grant Program aims to support the long-term management of National Forest Systems in the U.S. through efforts including mass timber harvesting, renewable energy and technological development.
Other programs from the Forest Service include the Community Wood and the Wood Products Infrastructure Assistance grant programs that continue to help manufacturers modernize facilities, adopt advanced technologies and overcome barriers in the U.S. wood products market.
The Forest Service invested $200 million in the National Active Forest Management Strategy in May, implemented in response to President Donald Trump’s executive order addressing immediate timber production.
