Tractor Supply Company opened new stores and saw increases in sales and income during the second quarter of 2015.
The rural lifestyle store chain had net sales of $1.77 billion, an increase of about 12 percent from 2014’s second quarter. Net income grew to $153.3 million for year-over-year growth of nearly 15 percent.
Increases in store traffic and ticket amounts drove the comparable store sales increase of 5.6 percent, according to a report the company released this week. Seasonal products – including big ticket items such as riding lawn mowers and trailers – and consumables contributed to the growth in comparable store sales, according to the company.
Tractor Supply opened 17 stores and closed one during the second quarter. The company’s goal is to open more than 110 new stores in 2015.
As of the end of June, the the Brentwood, Tennessee, business operated 1,438 stores in 49 states. The company is the largest operator of retail farm and ranch stores in the U.S.
