Christian Herrick, vice president of operations for Randy’s Do It Best Hardware, a three-store operation based in Timberville, Virginia, recently received a scholarship from Stanley Black & Decker to attend the Spring 2015 class of the North American Retail Hardware Association’s (NRHA) Retail Management Certification Program.
The $6,250 scholarship paid for half of Herrick’s tuition for the program, which was developed in conjunction with Butler University in Indianapolis.
Herrick and store owner Randy Andes met with NRHA president and CEO Bill Lee and Matt Minnick, Director Sales-2 Step Distribution for Stanley Black & Decker at the recent Do It Best Market in Indianapolis to formally present the scholarship check to Herrick.
“The program has been incredible and I have already learned so much,” says Herrick. “I want to thank Stanley Black & Decker for this scholarship because, frankly, it was the only chance for me to attend this course. I am committed to hardware retailing as a career, and receiving the scholarship and attending the course will impact our company in so many ways.”
“At Stanley Black & Decker, we have been helping independent retailers like Randy’s Do It Best succeed for the past 170 years, and we’re pleased to be sponsoring a scholarship for this program,” says Minnick.
“By providing this scholarship, Stanley Black & Decker is taking a leadership role in the industry, and is helping independents succeed,” Lee says. “We’re very grateful for their support of this program.”
