October’s National Fire Prevention Week is a great time to talk with your customers about fire safety and sell some fire extinguishers and smoke detectors. But that should just be the start of the conversation. Lurking around the store are a host of products that can keep your customers safe and help avert disaster. Bundle them on an endcap or post lists to get customers thinking. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Smoke detectors for each level of the house.
- Fire extinguisher for the kitchen and garage.
- Carbon monoxide detector.
- Fire escape ladder for second story rooms.
- Covers for electrical outlets.
- Water supply hoses to replace any that have leaks, bulges, bends or kinks.
- Long-handled brush to clear out lint from dryer vents and hoses.
- Motion detector lights for outside the garage or dark areas around the home.
- Deadbolts with remote locking and unlocking.
- Grab bars for elderly members of the household.
- GFCI receptacles in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room.
- Labels for poisonous chemicals.
