PPG recently announced Country Soil (PPG15-30) as its 2027 Color of the Year, a warm, saturated hue that blends beige, taupe and gray. Country Soil draws inspiration from the natural world, evoking clay-rich earth and weathered stone. The color is part of PPG’s 2027 global color theme, Foundations, which includes three palettes: Solid Ground, Quiet Zone and Life Shared.
“Country Soil is designed for slowing down,” says Irina Hanhisalo, PPG color category lead, EMEA, architectural coatings. “For 2027, we have selected a grounding color that acts as a solid foundation for any project. Inspired by the warm, natural hues of clay, it provides a base layer with a soft, neutral tone. Rather than treating wall color as a decorative surface layer, Country Soil creates a space to settle and recharge.”
Country Soil can be used as an accent color or applied throughout an entire room, including walls, trim and ceiling for a more immersive effect. It also works well within established design frameworks such as the “60-30-10” rule: It can serve as the dominant color across 60% of a space on the walls, complemented by a secondary trend tone on 30% through furniture or textiles, with a vibrant accent color across the remaining 10% for a balanced, considered look. Country Soil also carries a low light reflectance value, diffusing light rather than reflecting it and is suited well to exterior applications, where its natural tone blends with an outdoor environment.
