Nominations Open for 2021 Retailer of the Year

Do you know an outstanding young retailer? Nominations are now open for the North American Hardware and Paint Association’s (NHPA) 2021 Young Retailer of the Year program. For 25 years, the program has identified up-and-coming leaders who exemplify the future of the independent home improvement industry.

Program Benefits
The Young Retailer of the Year program is the premier award in the industry honoring the next generation of independent hardware and paint retailers. Honorees benefit from industrywide exposure for themselves and their businesses and also have the opportunity to participate in additional programming and scholarships through NHPA.

Nomination Process
Nominations are due Feb. 28, 2021. Entries are scored based on nomination criteria, including contributions to operational growth; community engagement; participation in industry education; and industry and organizational ingenuity.

Honorees are selected from three categories:

  1. Stores with less than $2 million in sales
  2. Stores with more than $2 million in sales
  3. Multiple-store operations

Judging Criteria
Young Retailer of the Year nominees should be 35 years old or younger as of Feb. 28, 2021. They must work at independent hardware stores, home centers, lumberyards or paint and decorating outlets in the U.S., its territories or in Canada. Past entrants who were not selected as previous honorees are encouraged to submit new applications.
