December marks the 100th year of business for Nichols Hardware in Purcellville, Virginia.
Three generations of the Nichols family have maintained the store, according to an article from The Washington Post. Nichols Hardware has remained a place where loyal customers return, despite the many changes that have happened in a century.
Here’s how The Washington Post story describes Nichols Hardware’s beginning:
“Two years after the Titanic sank, five months after the start of World War I, Edward E. Nichols Sr. stocked his hardware store in Purcellville, Va., with horse collars for farmers and handmade dolls for children. It was just a few days before Christmas.”
