Mortgage Rates Drop to One-Year Low in October

Mortgage rates in October fell to the lowest rates in over a year, according to Freddie Mac.

The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.25% in October, 10 basis points (bps) lower than September and 17 bps lower than October of last year. The 15-year rate decreased only 1 basis point to 5.49%, down 11 bps from a year ago.

The 10-year treasury yield averaged 4.09% in October, down 5 basis points from September. Existing home sales also rose in September. Data for new home sales have been delayed due to the current government shutdown.
