Menards has responded to coverage of a labor union charge alleging that the retailer includes a clause in employment agreements that limits managers’ rights.
The agreements described by The Progressive had managers accepting sizable pay cuts if their employees joined unions.
“I checked and our current contracts do not include such a clause,” Menards spokesman Jeff Abbott told The Progressive.
A recent article in The Progressive shared a section of a 2015 employee agreement titled that states:
“The Manager’s income shall be automatically reduced by sixty percent (60%) of what it would have been if a union of any type is recognized within your particular operation during the term of this Agreement. If a union wins an election during this time, your income will automatically be reduced by sixty percent (60%).”
Menards has not acknowledged to The Progressive that the clause was included in prior agreements.
