Lowe’s Opens Global Innovation Center in India

As retailers in the U.S. continue to develop higher-tech customer service methods, one big-box home improvement retailer is taking its technology emphasis global.

Lowe’s Services India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Lowe’s Companies, Inc., has announced the opening of its Global Innovation Center in Bangalore, India. The retailer’s goal for the center is to focus on the next-generation customer experience by emphasizing technology and analytics. The goal is to make innovations that provide customers with a more personalized shopping experience, according to a press release from Lowe’s.

In the U.S., Lowe’s operates Lowe’s Innovation Labs, which last year introduced in-store robots to assist customers.

The Bangalore center will support the big-box retailer’s efforts to be an omnichannel home improvement company, the press release says.

“We are very excited about the Global Innovation Center here in Bangalore, which will bring to fruition a valuable part of our analytics and technology potential,” says Robert Niblock, chairman, president and CEO of Lowe’s Companies, Inc., in the press release. “We feel confident that with this strengthening of our presence in India, we will be able to provide more personalized experiences to customers, helping us continue our pace of strategic growth.”

The Global Innovation Center will be headed by Narayan Ram, managing director of Lowe’s India. The center will provide Lowe’s with a strategic footprint to leverage Bangalore’s potential for technology-led innovation, in addition to engaging India’s growing talent pool, the press release adds. The Bangalore facility is 110,000 square feet and expected to employ 500 people by the end of 2015.
