J.C. Penney has once again hired a top executive from the home improvement industry with its appointment of Marci Grebstein to the role of executive vice president and chief marketing officer, according to the company.
Grebstein, who will begin her new role with the retailer in June, previously served as chief marketing officer for Lowe’s.
J.C. Penney’s prior high-level hire from the home improvement industry was its current chairman and CEO Marvin Ellison, who the company hired in 2014 while he was serving as executive vice president for stores at Home Depot.
The department store retailer reports that Grebstein will report to Ellison.
“Marci is an outstanding senior leader with a proven track record of developing winning marketing strategies for a diverse cross-section of leading national retailers,” Ellison says.
“As we focus on enhancing our Home Refresh strategy, better utilizing customer data and optimizing our omnichannel capabilities, her broad retail expertise will be invaluable as we seek to differentiate our business through strategic marketing initiatives that will entice new and loyal customers to choose JCPenney for their homes and families.”
Ellison has led J.C. Penney’s recent expansion into home improvement products, such as large appliances and services that include bathroom remodels.
