Hardware Stores Collect Food for Homeless Pets

Ace Hardware stores in the Springfield, Massachusetts, area are collecting pet food for local humane societies and animal shelters.

Rocky’s Ace Hardware, a family-owned business, will collect the pet food through Dec. 23 at its nine stores in the Springfield area. A local radio show personality is making appearances at each of the stores to help promote the donation drive.

Last year, Rocky’s Ace Hardware collected more than 8,000 pounds of pet food, as well as animal toys and beds, from customers. The stores have each posted lists of items the animal shelters need so shoppers know what to donate. Rocky’s Ace Hardware is headquartered in Springfield, and owns 32 stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Florida.

Your store, too, could meet needs in your communities and offer opportunities for customers to give back during the holiday season by hosting creative donation drives or local celebrity visits.
