When planning their weddings, many couples head to big box retailers like Macy’s, Target and Bed Bath & Beyond to register for household items such as bed sheets, bath towels and china dishes.
Nowadays, wedding registries are available online, and wish lists are increasingly diverse. MyRegistry.com, a website that merges shoppers’ gift registries from a variety of Web stores, has picked up on a trend — an influx of man-chosen items, according to an article by CNBC.
“MyRegistry.com saw a 30 percent increase in male-selected items on the site last year, including things like power drills and sporting equipment,” the article says.
The registry website allows consumers to pick items from any retail website to add to their multi-store wedding gift wish list. A few of the top gifts grooms have chosen include hammocks, grills, sleeping bags, tool sets and shovels, the CNBC article adds.
For independent home improvement retailers, having a store wedding registry may not be an option, but employees can alert customers to products a couple may need while starting a new life together.
If retailers have the capability of selling items online, they can hang posters in their stores informing customers that they can use MyRegistry.com to register for home improvement products the store sells.
A retailer could also arrange an endcap with essential power tools and accessories a new couple might need, or create a display in the housewares department that highlights items for the kitchen and dining room. Then the retailer could hang a sign nearby suggesting shoppers pick out a wedding gift or two from the displays.
