Father’s Day Spending Includes Home Improvement

Over the next couple days, consumers will be heading out in search of the perfect gift for a special someone—Dad. If your business hasn’t planned ahead, it’s not too late to let your customers know you have everything he could want or need.

Spending for this holiday is predicted to reach $12.7 billion this weekend, according to the National Retail Federation’s 2015 Father’s Day Spending Survey. The survey also found that the average person will spend $115.57 on gifts.

While spending covers a wide range of categories, home improvement tools are top of the list, meaning your business should be doing what it can to draw consumers in for all the hot items Dad might want.

Consider firing up one of the grills outside your store with hot dogs and hamburgers this weekend. Be sure the store has a few prominent displays out front with products geared toward Dad. And if possible, offer discounts or pass out Father’s Day coupons with a percentage off of products for shoppers.

A few categories your customers will be interested in gifting this weekend include home improvement or gardening supplies, new tools or appliances, sporting goods and leisure items, the NRF survey found. And nearly 16.9 percent of these shoppers will shop local.
