Dunlap Supply Celebrates 151 Years of Service

For over a century, Dunlap Supply has served the community of Batesville, Indiana. The store celebrated its 150th year in business in 2023.

Dunlap’s, a family-owned operation, is currently owned by Allen and Samantha Giesting. Dunlap Supply’s largest selling category is lumber and roofing products, and the store specializes in niche categories to outfit customers with their specific needs. The store’s on-site working mill is a unique feature of the store, and Dunlap’s is the only store in Batesville offering 24-hour ripped screen repair, Samantha says.

The Giestings say the secret to the store’s longevity is “walking the fine line between being open to changes, yet sticking true to our roots. It’s a hard line to walk some days.”

Community involvement is also very important to Dunlap Supply and a core aspect of their service.

“We are constantly donating to the community and giving of our time, talent and treasure,” Samantha says. “Last year, we donated new kneelers to our church, lumber for birdhouses for kids to make with a veteran, plywood 3D lifesize trees to a school for AppleFest…the list goes on. We love our small town, and we do everything we can to be a part of it.”

Dunlap’s has big plans for this year and beyond to continue the store’s legacy of personalized service. Plans to revamp mill areas and add a few employees to the current team of nine are in the works.

“As simple as it sounds, we hope to continue to provide lumber and building materials to Batesville and the surrounding areas just as we have for the last 151 years,” Samantha says.
