Do it Best Group is adding Paycor as a preferred payroll and people-management provider for Do it Best members and True Value retailers, marking the first time the cooperative has offered retailers a preferred payroll-provider solution.
The program will be introduced at the 2026 Do it Best and True Value Fall Market in Indianapolis, where retailers can begin enrolling. Paycor representatives will be available at the market to demonstrate the platform, discuss retailers’ needs and help stores select services.
The agreement gives participating retailers access to discounted Paycor pricing. Specific pricing will vary based on factors including employee count and the services a retailer selects, according to Do it Best Group.
“Our store owners have told us they need practical tools that simplify payroll and other time-consuming people processes,” says Celeste Stevens, vice president of human resources at Do it Best Group. “Paycor gives them a connected, easy-to-use solution that can save time, strengthen their teams and help them manage their businesses with greater confidence.”
Paycor, which is owned by Paychex, provides a platform covering payroll and other employee-management functions ranging from recruiting and onboarding through employee engagement, development and retention.
Paycor was already a Do it Best Group partner for recruiting, applicant tracking and human capital management services. The new agreement establishes the company as the cooperative’s preferred payroll provider and expands the services being made available to Do it Best members and True Value retailers.
Payroll Program Goes Beyond Processing Paychecks
The platform includes a payroll engine, single sign-on capabilities and mobile tools that allow managers to approve time-off requests and complete other employee-management tasks from a phone or through text messaging.
Other available services include an employee-recognition module, AI-powered onboarding tools, employment-law and compliance research and an employee handbook builder designed to help businesses maintain workplace policies as employment laws change.
Paycor also integrates with CareerPlug, allowing Do it Best and True Value retailers already using the applicant-tracking platform to continue using it.
“Store owners wake up thinking about their business and their customers every day,” says Adam Ante, senior vice president of HCM at Paychex, Paycor’s parent company. “They shouldn’t have to spend valuable time on administrative work that gets in the way of those priorities. Through our partnership with Do it Best Group, we’re giving store owners practical tools to hire, onboard, pay and support their teams.”
Do it Best Group says mobile access is intended in part for managers working on sales floors and in lumberyards who may otherwise need to leave those areas to handle administrative tasks from an office.
The company also highlighted Paycor’s AI-powered onboarding capabilities, which are designed to address employee questions during the onboarding process, as well as its employment-law and compliance platform for researching federal, state and local employment requirements.
Do it Best Group says the negotiated pricing is another component of the program. Both Do it Best members and True Value retailers are eligible for what the cooperative describes as a significant discount on Paycor services.
A Do it Best Group spokesperson says the cooperative intends to leverage its collective size and strength to give independent retailers access to payroll and people-management technology at pricing they would be unlikely to secure on their own.
Retailers will be able to choose services based on their individual business needs rather than use a single package, with pricing determined in part by employee count and the services selected.
The Paycor agreement adds to Do it Best Group’s portfolio of technology and business services available to independent retailers following its acquisition of True Value in 2024. Recently, Do it Best launched it Retail Innovation Lab and the Dallas Tech Center.
“Independent store owners are already balancing customer service, inventory, operations, and leadership responsibilities every day,” Stevens says. “Our goal is to give them tools that make the work behind the scenes simpler, so they can focus their time and energy where it matters most.”
