Curtis Lumber Co., which has 23 locations in New York and Vermont, has been honored with induction into the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry. Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R, C-Ballston) nominated the company for the honor and presented a New York State Assembly proclamation at the company’s flagship location in Ballston Spa, New York, in December 2023.
“As a sixth-generation family business, Curtis Lumber is honored to be recognized in the registry,” says Jim Carpenter, director of marketing. “We have worked hard through the years to be a strong supporter of the communities in which we live, work and operate. It means a lot to the Curtis family and the thousands of employees who have helped make this possible over the company’s 134-year existence.”
The New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry program is administered by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and highlights businesses that have been in operation for at least 50 years and have contributed to their community’s history.
“Curtis Lumber’s remarkable ability to not only adapt but thrive in the face of challenges speaks volumes about their commitment to both their craft and the communities they serve. Curtis Lumber demonstrates that success can be achieved through perseverance, innovation and a genuine passion for serving others,” Walsh says. “I’m honored to celebrate and acknowledge their exceptional achievement, and I’m proud to have been a part of supporting and facilitating their path to this well-deserved designation.”
