The U.S. Department of Commerce recently announced it is more than doubling its countervailing duties on Canadian lumber imports from 6.74% to 14.63%.
Two weeks ago, the Commerce Department announced it is significantly increasing its anti-dumping duties on Canadian lumber imports from 7.66% to 20.56% following a review of existing tariffs.
Higher anti-dumping duties are now in effect following these actions, increasing from 14.5% to 35%. The countervailing rate will become effective after the announcement is made in the Federal Register next week.
Tariffs on Canadian lumber could increase before the end of August as an announcement from President Donald Trump is expected surrounding the investigation into Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, evaluating whether lumber imports represent a threat to national security.
