With five locations in the Los Angeles area, Anawalt Lumber celebrated 100 years in business in February 2023. Throughout the year, the company hosted special in-store events and sponsored anniversary specials and giveaways. Events included workshops for gardening, DIY house-building instruction and partner campaigns with local builders and nonprofits serving the Los Angeles community.
Anawalt Lumber is one of the last family-owned and operated lumber companies in Los Angeles. Harmond Fred Anawalt Jr. opened the flagship location in West Los Angeles in 1923. In 1948, just after World War II, the West Hollywood location opened. The operation added a third location in Inglewood and moved to its current location on Highland Boulevard in 1981. The Malibu store was opened in August 2011 and the Pacific Palisades store began operating in 2020. Each store offers a different inventory based on the needs and characteristics of the community it serves.
The company remains family-owned and operated, with the fifth generation of Anawalt family members now taking a leadership role in the business. The company focuses on customer service and personal attention unavailable at most box stores.
Anawalt Lumber has remained successful by focusing on customer service and personal attention. The operation’s knowledgeable sales associates are always ready to assist customers with large and small projects, special orders are never a problem and they offer prompt delivery service.
