Arnold’s Frontier Hardware, a well-known hardware store in Sierra Madre, California, announced it has been purchased by the Orlandini family, owners of Altadena Hardware, Newhall Hardware and Newland Hardware. Jimmy Orlandini and his family purchased the store from current owner Basil Kruger, along with the property from Jean Hatfield, the original Arnold’s Hardware owner.
The purchase marks a significant milestone for the Orlandini family, whose store, Altadena Hardware, was destroyed in the January 2025 Eaton Fire. Arnold’s Frontier Hardware will return to the name it originally opened under in 1949: Arnold’s Hardware.
“After losing Altadena Hardware in the fire, I learned how much a hardware store really means to a town; it’s not the inventory, it’s the people,” says Jimmy Orlandini. “When the chance came to take care of Arnold’s, just down the road, it felt right. From here, we can serve both communities, Sierra Madre and Altadena, for years to come. This store has served Sierra Madre for over 75 years, and our goal is simple: keep it that way.”
The family plans to honor what generations of customers have loved about the store while investing in a refreshed space and expanded inventory in the months ahead, including the addition of Benjamin Moore paint. A full remodel and grand re-opening celebration are planned.
“Making the decision to sell my hardware store was not easy, but Jimmy Orlandini had a well-known reputation at his Altadena store for customer service, and he ran his business with the same attention to his shoppers, to old-fashioned values and to commitment to the local community as I always have had,” Kruger says. “I know that he will continue to take care of the customers at Arnold’s Hardware and the people of Sierra Madre the way it’s been done for the last 75 years, as initiated by Mr. Ollie Arnold, followed by Bob and Jean Hatfield, and continued by me. I have found that with Jimmy, as it was back in the days with Mr. Arnold, that both a handshake and his word is his bond.”
