Additional Services Attract Customers

Although competing with online retailers and big box stores can be frustrating to independent store owners, independent retailers stand out in many ways, including through free or unique services they offer every day.

While not every home improvement, hardware store and lumberyard is the same, they typically provide some extras, which can include educational fliers, workshops, how-to advice or free services.

The services independent retailers provide are unique and important in a retail world where self serve is replacing customer service, according to a recent article from Money Talks News.

The article provides examples of 14 different free services offered by home improvement stores across the country. Those services include estimating the costs of materials needed for specific projects, cutting pipes and boards to custom sizes, loaning tools and hosting how-to classes.

Whether your location offers a majority of these services or just a few, make sure to let your customers know the many ways you can help them. The more that customers know what you offer, the more likely they will be to think of your business instead of the big box down the road.
