Halloween shoppers this year are expected to spend more on decor than in previous years, alongside completing their shopping for the holiday early.
According to the National Retail Federation, 78% of Halloween shoppers are expected to purchase decor. Total spending on decorations is expected to reach $4.2 billion, $1.6 billion more than in 2019. More people are buying decor than costumes this year.

Hanging decorations are set to be the most popular types of decor, including lights and cobwebs, with pumpkins and gourds following closely behind. Indoor decor, door decorations and themed homeware are also expected to make a significant appearance this season. The giant yard skeletons, gravestones and light-up jack-o-lanterns are also sought-after decor options among Halloween fans.
The most popular time to start decorating is the first half of October and more 18 to 24-year-old early shoppers say they are looking forward to fall or that Halloween is their favorite holiday.
