The Sherwin-Williams Company announced its financial results for Q1 2025, with the first quarter ending on March 31, 2025. The Paint Stores Group of Sherwin-Williams Company saw same-store sales increase by 1.2%, up from a 0.1% decrease in Q1 2024, and left its guidance for the balance of the year unchanged.
Overall, Sherwin-Williams Company saw net sales decrease 1.1% to $5.31 billion, down from Q1 2024, due to impact from unfavorable currency translation. Sales in the Performance Coatings and Consumer Brands Groups were partially offset by higher sales in the Paint Stores group. Net sales for the Paint Stores Group reached $2.94 billion, up 2.3% from Q1 2024, primarily due to selling price increases and partially offset by a low-single digit decrease in sales volume.
The Consumer Brands Group (CBG) saw a decrease in net sales, reported at $762.2 million, down 6% from Q1 2024. This was a result of soft DIY demand in North America and an approximate 3% impact from unfavorable currency translation. Net sales in the Performance Coatings Group (PCG) also decreased from Q1 of last year, reaching $1.6 million.
“We expect second quarter 2025 consolidated net sales to be up or down a low-single digit percentage compared to the second quarter of 2024,” Petz says. “Our guidance for the full year 2025 remains unchanged, with consolidated net sales expected to be up a low-single digit percentage compared to full year 2024. We expect to provide an update on our full year guidance when we report our second quarter results in July.”
Demand softness is expected to continue into the second half of 2025.
“In a demand environment that remained choppy as we anticipated, Sherwin-Williams continued to execute our strategy and delivered solid first quarter results driven by gross margin expansion and good cost control,” says Heidi Petz, Sherwin-Williams chair, president and chief executive officer. “Consolidated sales were within our guidance range, led by Paint Stores Group.”
Addressing current tariffs, Sherwin-Williams emphasizes that a majority of their revenue is in the U.S. and a large portion of materials are sourced in regions where the company manufactures.
