According to a recent Forbes survey done in conjunction with Talker Research, internet usage among Americans is shifting in several significant ways. The survey found that internet usage has made a move from mainly desktops to mobile devices with nearly one-third of Americans exclusively using their smartphones to access the internet.
The other major shift has been the use of social media as a search engine instead of relying on traditional search engines like Google, with 24% of Americans using social media to search online. Generation Z is using Google 25% less than Generation X, and the study shows a 30% decline among Generation Z in using traditional search engines for brand discovery.
With these shifts in digital preferences for brand discovery and searching for information, it will become even more critical for businesses to have a robust online presence, including social media channels and websites that are mobile optimized.
